  •  What peril? (31+ / 0-)

The Democratic Party is doing absolutely nothing to challenge and replace that asshole in the up-coming election. And please don't give me that "he's in a safe district" crap. That's all it is, crap and we all know it. Call his ass out with a formidable candidate and crush him. That's what the Republicans would do if they needed to get rid of a Democrat. They do it all the time.

    •  I feel the same about Eric Cantor's district (11+ / 0-)

which becomes bluer with every passing year.  In fact, if 60% of the registered dems turned out to vote, we'd have a shot at winning that one.

    •  I agree (9+ / 0-)

With you diffrntdrummr. Issa's district is just north of were I live and our county party isn't doing much to send him packing. That district has a lot of Hispanic voters that our party is just not engaging. It's really frustrating.

That there is a Dem in the race but I don't know how much support he's getting from the party. His name is  Dave Peiser and if the party doesn't give him enough support we should. The mistake the party made with Barbara Buono in New Jersey should not be repeated.

        •  I know about Dave Peiser (0+ / 0-)

My group, Knowledge Democrats, and I have been reporting on Dave Peiser for MONTHS.  What amazes me is that SO many people on Daily Kos continue to claim they're from CA-49 or nearby, think Darrell Issa is unbeatable yet know so VERY little about information in CA-49.

CA-49 has 29% Democrats and 25% Independents along with 41% Republicans.  In a hypothetical, where all or most of the Democrats & Independents vote for Dave Peiser or another Democratic nominee, Issa loses by over 6% points.

Also, certain people need to be aware that from September 2012 - February 2013, for each the 29% Democratic and 25% Independent side, 2000+ voters increased for each.  But only 225 lousy Republican voters were registered.  And this is in a district that includes San Clemente where President Richard Nixon once bought property in the late 1960's!  You'd think the CA Republican Party would have its act together considering the most powerful Republican in California resides in one of the most traditionally conservative regions in California.

Nowadays, San Diego County is purple territory and Democrats as of the last general election cycle have a slight edge over Republicans in voter registration.  Doesn't mean things are easy for the Democratic Party from here on but there's room for growth.

And don't even try to compare Barbara Buono vs. Chris Christie race.  California Democratic Party, unlike NJ Democratic Party, is not in the same boat and actually consists of Democrats who are REAL Democrats and not hypocritical "you-scratch-my-back-I-scratch-yours" supporters of Chris Christie.  CA-49 is in a completely different situation and CA Republican Party is as popular as dog poop in CA right now.  What can you say when Gov. Jerry Brown has produced a budget surplus.

      •  I have been assured that the San Diego (3+ / 0-)

Dems are working hard to organize and oust Issa.

Is that not the case - based on what people who live there know and experience?

That would be disappointing if what I had been told by a party insider was not true.

        •  Yes, they have (0+ / 0-)

San Diego County Democratic Party, the most active and local party in the region which CA-49 is based in, is being chaired by former Congressional Candidate Francine Busby who ran against Rep. Randy "Duke" Cunningham back in 2004, against Rep. Brian Bilbray TWICE and all those times lost.  She's got fighting spirit, that's for sure.

I believe that in part of Francine Busby's leadership (and she's been in leadership of the SD County Democratic Party for some time), Democrats in SD County were able to unseat Rep. Brian Bilbray and bring in Scott Peters, who is now facing a tough re-election fight against gay moderate Republican Scott DeMaio.  SD County Democratic Party is focused on unseating other Republicans in Congress and may very well have Darrell Issa on their sights next.

      •  Maybe you all ought to consider giving up (0+ / 0-)

on the Dems and switching to THE GREEN PARTY.  True, there are a few fighters like Elijah Cummings, but maybe the reason the Democratic Party isn't fighting in districts that are "blue" is because Dems are just demoralized.
Happens when your party has a warmonger in the White House year after year.

        •  Warmonger? (0+ / 0-)

Who's the warmonger?  Not President Obama.  He ended the war in Iraq; Is ending the war in Afghanistan; refused to go to war in Iran (at least so far); limited action in Syria.

No, we don't have a "warmonger" in the White House.  I don't agree with him on every issue, but going to war is not the problem (but would be if a republican were in the WH).

        •  That's not the issue in CA-49 (0+ / 0-)

CA-49 is rated with a PVI of R+4 per the Cook Political Report.  It's very much a red district but not as red compared to most red districts in the U.S.

The problem is, for the Democratic Party in CA-49, they are running against Darrell Issa, who has had a long history with the CA Republican Party since the 1990's as far as fundraising even before he was elected as Congressman in 2000.  Issa's clout is CA-49 and quite a number of wealthy people reside in the district who happen to be some of Issa's donors.

On the other hand, in CA-49, numbers of Democrats and Independents have increased in the thousands in the last general election cycle vs. just 225 Republican voter registrations so the GOP is really slacking off across the board as far as voter registration drives & outreach.

      •  Isn't doing much? You're out of touch (0+ / 0-)

Democratic challenger to Darrell Issa, Dave Peiser, has been running against Issa since September 2013 and been working to shore up support.  I have more inside information even from supporters of Issa's Facebook page who have stated that there are efforts to start a new Democratic club and all the ones that are active in CA-49 (and there's quite a few) have endorsed Dave Peiser or will endorse him.

Also, Dave Peiser has support of the CA Democratic Party and just this past January got full support from the San Diego APWU.  Did you get the memo?

...that significant elements in the Democratic Party LIKE the way things are now, don't want real power, because the Dem base expects results when power is attained.

We're not the Repub base, we want change. We want immigration reform, an end to the war on drugs, true universal health care (Medicare for all!), and a host of other things that the rich and powerful don't want.

We sometimes forget that even though the Repub Party is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the 1%, that's also true of a significant part of the Democratic Party as well...including our next candidate for president.

        •  CA Democratic Party has REAL Democrats (0+ / 0-)

I'm a Bay Area native, long-time resident of California.  I can tell you right now, CA Republican Party is as popular as dog doo doo right now.  CA Democrats are more liberal than national Democrats and do NOT compromise with the GOP.  Plain and simple.

Plus, in California, we're loving it that Gov. Jerry Brown has managed to get us out of a serious budget deficit hole that Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger blew up in his tenure.  Now CA has a State Budget Surplus.

    •  Issa should go (9+ / 0-)

He has wasted countless taxpayer dollars on pointless investigations.  He has persecuted countless mid-level employees, forcing them to hire lawyers and waste time defending actions that were dictated from above.  He has delayed the course of normal federal business with his demands for document production, related to investigations that a bit of inquiry by his own staff would have shown were unnecessary.  His is the press conference that has launched a thousand baseless conspiracy theories.  He has used his office as chairman of the Government Oversight Committee to increase his own campaign fundraising-in spite of being one of the richest men in Congress.  He does this by holding a large press conference where he announces his suspicions of a conspiracy about something that will undoubtedly lead to the President's impeachment.  Before the mics are turned off,  his staff sends out letters and emails asking for donations so that he can continue his noble pursuit.  After the letters are mailed, it turns out the conspiracy was bogus but he never issues a retraction or an apology.  He has used his position in Congress to slander democratic appointees or government employees.  The man is a disaster who has cost the country millions in wasted investigations and lost productivity.  Surely all those deficit fearing Republicans can find someone better than him to fill his seat.

    •  What peril? (0+ / 0-)

I'm finally beginning to realize that I have been spelling Darrell Issa's name backwards.  HIs performances demonstrate that it should really be spelled "ASS I".

    •  Not true (0+ / 0-)

Darrell Issa has Democratic challenger Dave Peiser to deal with.  My group, Knowledge Democrats, and I have been talking about Dave Peiser for MONTHS.  Surprised you haven't been paying attention to our diaries.

Should also mention Peiser has 2,500+ Twitter followers and growing and we worked REALLY  hard to achieve this base for him.  Now Peiser's name is being tweeted all around by many different users across the United States.
