    firstly. it does nothing  to increase our oil 'independence'. for starters oil is a world commodity, it doesn't matter if its produced here or not, we pay the same rate ether way. Second, the quality of the oil produced by the process is not very good, and you have to waste lots of water and energy , only to come up with oil, that  is basically hot tar.Thirdly protecting the environment creates jobs, as the revenues generated from our national parks show and going back to the depression, the efforts of the ccc brought millions of people out of despair and helped restore much of the dust bowl area- which includes nebraska, oklahoma  texas and kansas. i think the sandhills area in nebraska should be a national monument, so that it is preserved for future generations to enjoy and cant be despoiled by another shortsighted pipeline. you have done all of us a great service Mr thompson, by not being cowed by the allure of dollars or the threat of lawsuits,. by your efforts you saved your own land, and now you are trying to do the same for others. Bravo sir.
