get to look at a snow day as a day off from school. Poor children see it as a day they will go without a meal.

    •  Ryan would tell them to eat the snow (0+ / 0-)

even if it's yellow. (Unless the snow is on his lawn, then you'll get shot if you try.)

    •  I lived in a poor neighborhood, still do, but a (0+ / 0-)

different one.  There was a church behind my house, and the choir used to sing outside on the steps on sunday mornings.  One day the paster asked me if it bothered me.  Apparently someone in the neighborhood had complained and he probably thought it was me.  It was an all black church, by the way, and I am white. I told him no, I loved the music and keep it up.  He invited me to come over on saturday to their clothes closet and help myself, which I did.  That church used to also make sandwiches and fruit lunches for the kids in the neighborhood during the summer so the kids wouldn't go hungry.  Really good people in that neighborhood, a mixed race neighborhood, black, white, hispanic and some Vietnames.  Good ones in this one too, but mostly white, and alot of rednecks who vote republican even though they want to take the food out of their kids mouths.  Sad to see such ignorance.
