    ...the Roman Catholic Church were against religious liberty because it 'treated Truth and Error equally'.  To at least some on the Right, Evil Gummint programmes to feed the poor are bad not because they don't work but because they might, and so losers (a.k.a 'The Damned') would be treated by life closer to equally well as the Good People ('The Saved', 'The Worthy', 'jobs-creators').  'One law for the Lion and Ox is oppression.', and these worthies consider our poor and our well-off to be fundamentally nearly as different to each other as the ox and the lion.
