    The fact is that in MY school district, over 80% of kids are eligible for free or reduced-price lunches, but less than half of the eligible kids take advantage of them. I'm told by those who work with the program, that most of those who decline to use it are doing so out of pride (not wanting to be stigmatized).  Similarly, at the other end of the age spectrum, recent reports indicate that in PA, most of the elderly who are eligible for Medicaid, and therefore also eligible for SNAP, decline to use SNAP benefits.  Also out of pride.  One has to wonder how many corporations and wealthier individuals decline benefits they are eligible for because they're too proud.
