I don't see any problem with teaching our children that the world is an interesting place and that they might enjoy living somewhere other than the US more. Leaving the US might even give them a greater appreciation for our way of life.  Either way, experiencing a different way of life can be a life changing event.

I can appreciate the military experience. I was in the artillery with Special Weapons in Germany.

    •  Borders are artificial. I suspect there will be (5+ / 0-)

a few more countries  in North America in 100 years or so, replacing the four represented now: USA, Canada, Mexico and France ( yes, France - look up St. Pierre and Miquelon).

Quebec may be one. Cascadia may be another.

If some of this surprises you, read more broadly.

Nationalism, geography, climate, economic and trade interests, water are some of the drivers.

....a wannabe San Francisco or Manhattan/Brooklyn - a playground for the rich and a workhouse for the poor.

You can't spell "Dianne Feinstein" without "NSA".

        •  Sounds good to me. Two new countries, City State (0+ / 0-)

of Portland and the sovereign nation of Cascadia.

On a serious note, Canada is the USA's largest trading partner, Ontario is its second, or was. Toronto region is/ was third. Argument could be made that Toronto could survive as a country. They might like that, some other Canadians might, too.
