Everywhere I have lived outside of the US do not see moving overseas as unpatriotic.
In all your comments I've read you include this-- that Americans see living overseas as unpatriotic.
I have no idea where you get that, I'm an American, have lived and worked overseas and have never been accused of being unpatriotic because of it. Nor had anybody I ever heard of. Has anybody ever actually accused you of being unpatriotic for living overseas? Have more than one said that to you?  or is that just something you think they'd say? It does not ring true for me at all. American love travel overseas, many do it. There's obviously many that want to do it, just read OPOLs diary. Travel and living overseas is very common among Americans

My son lives in Chile now---he owns some very successful restaurants--- and does real well. he's given me 2 great granddaughters who are growing up with dual citizenship.
They can grow up and be whatever they want to be, wherever they want to be it. I've talked to a lot of people about him, never has enyone said he was unpatriotic.

I'll tell you something else: I travel to Chile frequently, every year. I'm going on the 18th of this month for the 6th time. I know educated people there, many who suffered through the Pinochet regime. My DIL's grandfather was run out by Pinochet. I have heard views and complaints really uncomplimentary to the USA. But I have never heard the hatred and contempt for the USA that I can read right in the comments of this diary

    Happy just to be alive
