  •  This story is important on so many levels. If this (13+ / 0-)

young boy should lose this case, and if Marissa Alexander should lose her case, domestic abuse victims all over the country will die for fear of defending themselves and/or their loved ones.

This story brings tears to my eyes. It reminds me of the millions of war zones that go on in families of domestic violence. It's not only about what the victims go through, but what the children witness during their lives, who may also be victims of abuse.

We must keep this issue in our national discourse until there are more laws that protect the innocent, and more mental health services available to help educate and stop the cycle of domestic abuse in families and generations to come.

    •  Yes, Leslie, I commented on a recent diary (11+ / 0-)

I commented on a recent diary (think it's on my own rec list) regarding Marissa.

I, basically, said that IF her abuser had actually killed her in his attack, he likely would have received a lesser sentence than she received for firing a warning shot, and hurting no one.

All these cases tell me that women don't matter in the U. S. of A. We're just "hosts" and "incubators" for babies, that don't matter once they are born, especially female babies.

      It sickens me!

I'm making sure to raise my kids to respect people, and my daughter to NOT depend on another person to support her, and neither to ever put up with abuse. My only hope, is that it's worked (considering what they saw when they were so very young).

recommended was mine. Our hearts are in the same place.

Very, very hard to write (and read) about domestic violence, and I think many here have experienced various forms of abuse. We keep these stories alive in hopes of helping others find a way out.

        Thanks again.
