We've seen a real stratification of our society in the last 40 years.  The rich, the middle class, and the poor no longer live in the same towns, the way they used to.  Living in the same town meant that their children went to school together, everyone went to church/temple together, and everyone shared the same public services.  Back when we had a draft, they all served in the military together and knew that their lives depended on each other.

At this point, for the top 1%, the poor might as well live in China for all they interact with them, and from their perspective, hey, why not? Chinese workers only cost $4 a day, instead of these "greedy" US workers, who'd like a living wage.  Oh, and maybe it's nice that they serve in the military, but gee, they sure get greedy when they come back "injured."

I don't think this is a conscious belief for most of them, but that doesn't mean it's not real.

exactly like you stated it here.

I've heard more than a few 1%ers state that they think vets are faking injuries and PTSD is a made up excuse not to get back into the work force.

It's a big reason why I am currently refusing to work closely with the 1% despite looking for work and my networking contacts constantly throwing in-home office support jobs my way.
