  •  It should be part of the commons (7+ / 0-)

I think eventually over the next decade, two at the most, we will see every state (including red southern and western) expand medicare thus making the U.S. health care system single payer. Really if you think about it, if fire and police protection, the infrastructure and government services are part of the commons and paid with by a communal tax fund why shouldn't health care? This is one of the reasons not only the insurance companies but big pharma and the medical device industries are fighting this is because they know where it is going and they also know there is nothing they can do about despite all the money they throw at our politicians and the bogus TV and radio ads. I am going to go so far as to say that we are at a point in this country with roughly 65% or more of living paycheck to paycheck and the high poverty rate, especially among children, we should consider basic food, clothing, housing and transporatation as part of the commons and not just for those on Medicaid but for ALL. Some may say it's a crazy idea but when we have an expanding part of the population who struggles day to day just to aquire food, shelter and so on can we truly say we are a first world country and the best country in the world?
