  •  thanks to our wonderful governor, Rick Scott (4+ / 0-)

Florida decided not to expand Medicaid, and also to prevent the State Insurance Commissioner from doing his or her job.  As a result, "Obamacare" has largely failed here in Florida.  Some folks who had decent insurance before have lost their policies and ended up with more expensive coverage (simply because Florida is refusing to negotiate the Exchange as the ACA had intended) and of course, they are blaming it on Obama, not on Scott, which was probably his motivation!  As for me, I am "self-employed" (actually an "independent contractor" = "low-wage employee without benefits and paying double SS taxes") making below poverty level income and therefore cannot qualify for ANY insurance whatsoever.  I am in the same boat as millions of other people in states which likewise decided to oppose the ACA.  Apparently the governors of our states don't think that working poor people need health insurance.  Looking forward to eventual single-payer universal coverage like every other "civilized nation" has...  Fortunately I wouldn't use mainstream medicine except in situations of dire emergency, as I can fix most things with herbs/holistic medicine.  But a broken limb or other serious injury/illness would certainly bankrupt me.
