  •  Best part of a butcher shop is being able to order (10+ / 0-)

    something and have it cut into small portions, or even to just order a 1/2 pound of ground meat.  All of my local stores offer the best prices in "jumbo" packaging.  I saw a nice (small) steak recently and was getting ready to ask for it when I saw the pricing; 8$/lb  if you bought one, 6$/lb if you bought two.
    There was only one small one, but next time, I may ask the butcher to cut a big one in two and give me the lower price.  Can't hurt to ask.

      I can't hurt.

      Some of the "old country" recipes that I have require the meat to be ground twice: first coarsely, then finely.  My grandpa and dad used to do it at home, but I'm not into that.  I can go up to Johnny's and they'll do it any way I want.  :-)
