30 percent of Americans support the Tea Party. And that was an all-time low for Gallup in December.

Not an accident that the number lines up with the repeal crowd almost perfectly.

    •  That's not what the poll you linked says, (1+ / 0-)

and never mind that only about 25% of Americans call themselves Republicans.

According to the poll you cite, btw, only 22% of Americans support the "Tea Party" whatever that may mean to different people.  To get the higher number you need to include the "have a favorable opinions" in as well. That might be the right thing to do.  I'm not sure what the difference is.

More telling, your poll shows only 58% of Republicans support it.

So... even if we round that 58% up to 60% and multiply that by the 25% of people who consider themselves to be Republicans, we get about 15%.  That would make about half the repeal supporters Republican.

One interesting thing in your survey was 9% of Democrats calling for repeal.  Don't know if they have similar reasons to the rest, or are single payer fanatics or what, but...

let's do that math again --  .9 * .31 and we round to get about 3%.  Not THAT's a fringe, but it's also about 20% of the Republican number.

I'd guess that the bulk of the "repeal" group are people who would be far less likely to vote Democratic than Republican, but more likely to sit an election out than those who are willing to call themselves Republicans.

LG: You know what? You got spunk. MR: Well, Yes... LG: I hate spunk!
