How is this a victory for the union? THEY are giving money back to UPS for "monetary damages occasioned by the walkout" (which lasted less than 2 hours) and the employees who were fired are losing 2 week's pay. So basically, the union tacitly admitted that the walkout was illegal and reimbursed the company for the money it lost due to their work stoppage in exchange for everyone getting their jobs back. But if they'd stayed off the job and proceeded with the boycott, the great people of NY would have done the heavy lifting for them. After losing revenue for a week, UPS would have rehired everyone WITH FULL PAY for their time off. Better still, management would know better than to try that shit again because New York is a union town.

UPS should have been forced to eat the lost revenue because they were wrong for firing Jairo Reyes and the other workers who stood up for him. Then, having the workers sacrifice 2 weeks pay would have shown the public that they were putting their money where their mouths were in order to stand up for one of their own.

Unions have to stop half-stepping and making these bullshit deals with the corporate plantation owners if they ever hope to regain public support and start increasing their members.
