    have gone after he went public?

    First of all, we need to dismiss the worn-out canard that he could have gone through normal whistleblower channels in the U.S. government to report illegal surveillance programs. Ask John Kiriakou or Thomas Drake about those "channels."

    Now, that said, should he have gone to Britain? Canada, Australia or New Zealand? Should he have gone to a dozen other countries who would have turned him in to U.S. authorities, authorities who hold hegemonic/military influence over those countries to one degree or another?

    Snowden's only choice was to go to a country that doesn't have a close relationship with the U.S. government. A country that could resist U.S. threats of a military/economic nature. China or Russia?

    It was his only choice
