    is more an insult to actual dumb people.

    That statement is so mind boggling inept I had to read it three times not just to make sense of it but to confirm that I was really seeing what my eyes were telling I was seeing.

        apparently the 'logic' runs someone along of the lines of

        democracy=socialism

        socialism = majority rule

        therefore

        democracy=majority rule

        However I have to really wonder if that's what he meant as 'majority rule' is in favour of things like some level of gun control, higher minimum wage, healthcare etc etc. Then again gods only knows what is going though his head as I certainly do not.

        •  He's talking about guns/2A. Here's the transcript: (3+ / 0-)

          Here's my transcript of his full comment:

          We are now so blindsided. Now, Senator Hagan says we gotta have a nice debate and discussion about what to do [about gun control]. See that’s called a democracy which is actually socialism which is called majority rules.
          No, no, no. We have to go back to the written rule called the Constitution, and see what the written rule of law says. We don't need men and women's opinions. We need to have men and women who can actually be honorable to their oath and understand what the rule says. And that's that's crucial.
          Now, if they want to get rid of the 2nd Amendment, do what they did with the 18th, with Prohibition, and the 21st. Let's have a convention, get 3/4 of the states, get 2/3 of the Congress, the President sign, that you cannot own guns. Fine. But if we're going to do this, let's not just do it on opinion or decision or vote, what's to eat [sic?], as two wolves and a sheep that, ah, Ben Franklin talked about, but let's do it Constitutionally-wise.
          If we do that, we know what the core of us, Keith [?], the core of us, we know what God's nature laws [unclear, sic?]. That is self-preservation.
          Where to start?

          His idiocy knows no bounds, and speaks for itself.

          Notice how he glibly slides from "get rid of the 2nd Amendment" into "then you cannot own guns"? He's wrong: getting rid of 2A would not ban all guns any more than it would ban cars. Getting rid of 2A does not mean "you cannot own guns."

          One clarification: he seems to have the numbers or sequence reversed on the process to amend the Constitution. This might seem odd -- for somehow whose whole argument is allegedly based on going "back to the written rule called the Constitution, and see what the written rule of law says" -- except that we know he's an idiot.

          There are two steps enumerated in Article 5: formal proposal of amendments and ratification. Each step has two alternatives.

          Proposal of Amendments can be approved by
          (a) a 2/3 vote of both houses of Congress (House and Senate); or
          (b) 2/3 of states' legislatures can call for a Constitutional Convention (this has not yet been done).

          Ratification requires either:
          (a) 3/4 of state legislatures approve, or
          (b) 3/4 of specially-called state conventions approved.
