    I love that you didn't really state the reason for his incarceration, beyond "an as-yet undisclosed drug offense." Believe it or not, in this day and age, more detail about the crime of which he'd been convicted, might give some people cause to feel superior, to deny him sympathy.

      are a medical issue, not a criminal one, and this man's story epitomizes the reasons. Mental illness and addiction co-occur so often, even more often than in past decades.
