  •  Will there be 3rd Party Candidates in Nov? (4+ / 0-)

Is this a real civil war? Probably not yet. But if some independent Republicans or Tea Party Republicans start thinking about running third party campaigns for the fall, all hell could break loose.

Their purpose would be to continue to push the GOP to the right as well as personal ambition. If this seems farfetched, well defeating Cantor seemed very far fetched, too.

Maybe it cracks open that door.  After all they can say, "money doesn't count". It didn't with Cantor.

They can say, "seniority is a negative". It is with Cochran.
So are endorsements and support from the Republican establishment.

From what I understand, the Liberatarian Party in Kentucky doesn't have automatic ballot access, so the stated nominee David Patterson is attempting to get 5,000 signatures by August 12. Another individual who self-IDs as a Neo-Nazi is trying to meet some alternate non-party deadline. The x-factor here is that Grimes is the sitting Secretary of State, so Team McConnell probably can't keep Patterson off the ballot if his signatures are sufficient in number and valid.

5,000 doesn't seem like it should be "a heavy lift", but a quick look at Patterson's very spartan website suggests that if he makes it, it will be a buzzer beating shot.

Change does not roll in on the wheels of inevitability, but comes through continuous struggle. --Martin Luther King Jr.
