  •  What a timely diary! (11+ / 0-)

Summer started today and I'll already started grumping at the kids. And after I lectured k1 as I drove her to her youth group outing to Ferry Beach, I lectured myself all the way home. What the hell is wrong with me? If I spend the entire summer correcting my kids, what will be left of them by September!?!? They just be little puddles as I chip away at them, drip by drip.

I wasn't sure what to do, but I know I need a change. And then I read this great diary! Yay! The genius of this is they add their own warm fuzzy, so they have to own it and feel good about what they are doing. They become aware of their own behavior (that is sorely been lacking in my kids and I know it's because they don't need to be — I have been that voice in their head, I have been their conscience...)

    Thanks! And happy summer...

    •  Ferry Beach Maine?! (9+ / 0-)

Was there just a few short weeks, for the first time.

      •  I remember your diary (5+ / 0-)

I showed it to Kgirl and told her this is where she's going. And like any self-respecting fifteen year old, she semi-shrugged and said "cool." She actually pulled off a fine impression of blasé — until I found out she packed two weeks ago.

I can't wait to hear about this retreat. She's a pretty firm atheist — until we watched "Defending Your Life" a few weeks ago. (Albert Brooks movie — one of my all time favorite films). Meryl Streep, who lived a pure life, stayed at a luxury hotel while reviewing her life; Albert Brooks was at a basic hotel... Kgirl looked at me and asked "is this the way it works after you die?!?! I am so screwed." Then she asked "do you think I can bring my own pup tent?" I'm not sure that the UU retreat is going to clear things up for her, but she now has questions and an open mind...

    •  I love the self-monitoring (9+ / 0-)

It shows trust, and lets them be in charge of their own filling.
