  •  Y'all keep in mind that these roads were designed (11+ / 0-)

and built to handle a light 6" rain like this, when they were new (we sometimes see 12-24"+ rains down here).

The problem is that the roads, and most other public infrastructure, are not being maintained as they should be anymore, particularly in Repuke (mis)governed juristictions *. An analogy is that of owning a motor vehicle.
Most of us buy a vehicle infrequently (new or used), and have to maintain it year-to-year if we want to continue using it relaticvely trouble free.
The Repukes and their more upscale ilk tend to buy a new one every year or two (or on a whim whenever), and thereby never even think of routine maintenace as a necessary expense or useful effort. It's expense is usually charged off anyway, and has no cost to them personally.

And so Repuke government looks the same to them: "buy" it, use it (run it into the ground if you like), junk it, move on.

And any middle/working class stiffs that vote for these plutolicans are the dumbest asses to ever exist (and I know hordes of 'em).

    * (PS: this whole area is one that, IMO, Pres. Obama and the Democrats totally fumbled, a large FDR/Ike-like effort (realized or not) would have turned the economy around much quicker, and been a political death-blow to the Repukes)

with your comment about how the Democratic party and the President have fumbled the Detroit situation badly. This should have been an easy pickup for them, but it seems that when areas populated largely by African-Americans suffer disasters, they're on their own.

      •  I didn't limit it to Detroit, they fumbled the (3+ / 0-)

whole effen economy for far too long (my use of the word "area" meant the whole national infrastructure issue, not just the immediate Detroit floods, my clumsy wording I guess).

    •  You're correct in one respect... (16+ / 0-)

namely that the original stimulus program was way too small.  However, I think it's more appropriate to look at the group that opposed the whole idea in the first place...and, surprise, it wasn't the President and the democrats.  Let's place the blame squarely where it belongs.

    •  Not a Kingdom nor a Dictatorship, but a Republic (6+ / 0-)

Remember your Recent Washington Political History...

O and the Demos did not fumble, they couldn't get the Votes in the Senate.
Republicans have steadfastly REFUSED to accept Responsibility for the Great W Depression they caused, nor do anything to help the American People. They have refused to vote for anything that black President wanted.

They even refuse to accept that they were wrong, and propose more of the Same - if Elected again.

Blame the Perps. Or should I say, Traitors?

      •  I'm not shifting the blame, I just think that PBO, (3+ / 0-)

etc., could have played these issues up much more than they did.
It is only recently that PBO has been refuting and combatting the Repukes (to some degree throwing their own tactics back at them). Before this he was all about 'trying' to get along with people that many of us said would never, ever get along or compromise with him. Much fruitless time and effort was expended trying to be rational and reasonable with rabid animals (IMO).
