  •  What you need to know about SCOTUS (none)
    decision is shown in a quick rundown here (scroll down). It shows at a glance why the Supreme Court decision was so pivotal (beyond the obvious of course).  I'm especially interested in #1, the prevailing statewide standard.  So it was the rules that decided the outcome.

    Of course, if not for the massive disenfranchisement and purges, it would not have mattered which rule was selected. Gore would have walked away with it.

    (And we remember which race was mostly purged, don't we?)  That's a whole 'nother story. (Or is it the New Orleans story?)

    I heard author and BBC reporter Greg Palast on NPR about a year ago:

            It's not that Jeb Bush doesn't like black people;
            he just doesn't like the color of their vote.

      I am not trying to start a Scotus Dec. 12, 2000 revisit thread here.   This entire diary comments-thread has a different direction, which I'd prefer we keep in that focus. That Scotus thing can belong elsewhere on a different day.

      I will make the one remark though that we need a different justice than John Roberts now. He's been on the wrong side of fights to redress discrimination, Title IX, affirmative action and voting rights.
