  •  I agree that Miers is an unknown quantity. (none)
And I can understand why people assume Bush is up to something (he usually is). And yes, this nomination -- hell, this whole administration -- is an insult to America. But that being said...

I'm not certain that Bush is up to anything, not politically, at any rate. My suspicion is that Bush is getting tired of politics and tired of governing and only ran for president in the first place to prove a point: that he could be president and even get reelected, which even his daddy couldn't do. (So there, Jeb!)

Bush doesn't really care about policy or ideology. At this point, I suspect that he really just wants to reward his friends like Miers. For giving plum jobs to mediocre cronies, he outdoes U.S. Grant and all the mediocre presidents of the 19th century.

Sure, this is an insult to us, but it is likely a bigger insult to the wingers. I wouldn't be surprised if Bush thinks this is all a great joke he is playing on the country.

So sure, let's examine and scrutinize and poke and prod Miers to find out what she is made of. I'm guessing that when we open that Trojan horse, we will find ... nothing at all. Just an underqualified mediocre crony.
