  •  Exactly, what record. (none)
Not having a serious record didn't stop Roberts and it won't stop Meirs. If you think it is actually going to stop her ascendency, you haven't been paying attention.
    •  Roberts had more of a record than Miers (4.00)
Roberts actually argued before the Supreme Court and he was an actual judge.

Roberts, who went into introvert mode during the hearings, is different than Miers.

The Republicans won't fight Miers. When the whip cracks, they fall into line.

      •  She could bullshit her way through questioning. (none)
If I'm understanding this correctly, having no prior record gives her major latitude in answering questions during confirmation without the risk of contradicting prior statements on the subject.  Contrast that to a nominee with a record who has to please all sides, while avoiding inconsistency with the personal record.

Here's where we currently are:  Every Republican can be expected to vote for a box of rocks if Bush were to nominate one for the supreme court.  OTOH, Dems will have very few provable reasons to justify their opposition to what is most likely a rabid wolf in a sheep's clothing.  I certainly would expect no less from anyone close to Bush.

        •  Do they really need reasons? (none)
No, really...why can't they just filibuster based on the fact that she has shown no outstanding qualifications for a life position on the Supreme Court and there are other people more experienced and appropriate?
          •  well, one practical reason... (none)
They'd need to get 41 Senators together to agree to filibuster.  Whether that's even a remote possibility probably depends a lot on Reid; a filibuster isn't going to come together unless he leads it.

      •  Don't be so sure (none)
That whip just doesn't have the kind of force behind it that it used to.
