  •  Something is wrong... (none)
I think there is to much riding on this nomination for her views on abortion, affirmative action, not to have been vetted. Her lack of a record is what concerns me the most..why nominate a stealth candidate who I believe is not a trial lawyer, but a paper corporate lawyer.

Well besides that, I still wondering what it takes for a latino/a to become a supreme court justice.  I mean will it take Jimmy Smits character to wi,n on the West Wing, before we have one...latino/a Supreme Court Justice.

Anyway, to all you Latino/a who sucked up and sold out, see what you get for voting for W...nothing.

    •  There's this from her history: (4.00)
Ms. Bartos said Ms. Miers told her she was "pro-choice in her youth" but underwent "a born-again, profound experience" that caused her to oppose abortion.

She also voted against allowing gay and lesbian police officers in Dallas and is from an evangelical church.  I don't need much more evidence.

    •  political pay off? (none)
I think this is a pay off for years of loyal service , plain and simple. If they wanted a steath candidate, they would have found one who didn't send the wing-nut base running to the fortress walls. They'd find someone with no record who the right would recognize implcitly as someone they could trust. They'd drop some choice code words, and make it clear this was a wing-nut's wing-nut.

The fact the right is so incensed tells me that they've been cast overboard, in favor of a nominee who's being used to duck a fight, and pay of some old debets at the same time.

      •  The right is upset that there won't be a FIGHT (none)
My reading is that what the right wanted was a high profile fight. Listening to Limbaugh, etc., I get the impression that what they really wanted was a forum for a national debate. They needed a lightening rod candidate to set off a firestorm. Of course they think they would win that debate and the American public would come running to them. The "beast" of liberalism would be slain and the brave right knights of conservatism would get to rule in their theocratic utopia.

So a stealth candidate that may well square with their views isn't good enough. They know they are going down in flames next election and they need a cataclysmic event to shake things up. They think Bush blew it.

    •  Oh, and (none)
It's going to be Alda who wins on the West Wing. Go Hawkeye!
