    Chavez is anti-Bush rather than anti-American.

    Also, there is no doubt that "Chaves is also not necessarily seen in a positive light by all Latinos.", considering that about 40% of Venezuelans voted against him in the August, 2004 referendum. But about 60% voted for him. Not a Bush level Man-date of course, but pretty good considering the US has been trying to get rid of him for years.

    •  I agree that Chavez is anti-Bush (none)
      and not anti-American.  Furthermore, I am not referring explicitly to Venezuelans when I talk about "many Latinos."  Most of those I have spoken to are not from Venezuela.  I know how the vote came out. I was disagreeing with the authors overall assertion that the emergence of these leaders is part of a trend that came be easily summarized by references to Chavez and Guevara.  It's just not that simple.  The left in Latin America is much more diverse.  Furthermore, Marxism is not driving the left--which references to Che Guevara implies.
