It is with great distress that I read your response to the United Churches of Christ advertisement: http://www.wfn.org/2004/11/msg00231.html.
Let me get this straight. CBS News will not air this ad because it is "too controversial", and because Bush proposed the Defense of Marriage Act?
President Bush is the one making this a national issue by proposing this abhorrent piece of discrimination. HE is the one who is making this issue "too controversial". And yet I didn't see CBS deciding not to broadcast the Republican National Convention or carry his re-election advertising.
Now that Bush has opened this Pandora's box, ALL voices must be heard. This especially includes those voices from the religious community on both sides of this issue, otherwise the American public may be left with the impression that all Christians agree with President Bush's stance. As a Christian I find that unacceptable.
Air this advertising now, and use the public airwaves to promote the free discourse of ideas on this subject or I will immediately boycott CBS News and its parent Viacom. I will also call on my friends, family and fellow bloggers on the internet to do the same.
I look forward to your immediate response.
