    definitions.  

    P.S.  Prop. 36 is running out of money, which is unfortunate, although I've heard advocates of the program state that it would be more effective if the incarceration option was available to the court following the first failure to abstain.

      I've heard the same about Prop. 36. This law is an improvement over the previous situation, without a doubt, but I'm opposed to ANY prison time for drug possession.

      •  I don't think the idea was prison time. I (0+ / 0-)

        gathered that, at present, the court cannot impose any time in local custody until after the third time the drug useer fails in an out-patient or in-patient rehab setting.  Lots of carrot but no stick.
