    I have yet to read the actual law and associated documents and look forward to doing so. But perhaps worth mentioning: a few of the provisions listed above were already part of existing FOIA law, including the requirement for a response within 20 days, and the application of most exemptions only in cases where release would cause some tangible harm. It is to be hoped that reiterating and clarifying such requirements will have made them harder to circumvent and that the new procedural requirements will help also.  

    That Bush was forced to sign new FOIA legislation surely can be counted a a significant victory. As Nixon was the President who unwillingly signed the original FOIA law, the current circumstances must be especially galling to Nixon protege "Darth" Cheney, who has long nursed a special grudge against sunshine on government operations.
