Earlier this afternoon I saw Chris Matthews ask Terry McAuliff about Mitt Romney's statement today. That inane statement is a perfect set-up to annihilate the Republican neo-con security posture. The ball is on the tee ready to be knocked out of the park, unless...   our nominee is Hillary Clinton. Because she voted for the war. Romney's boilerplate Repubelican bullshit was just begging to be shot down. Here, I'll give it a try myself:

Tweety: What do you think of the Romney comment?

Me: Well, Chris, let me help Mitt out. Mitt, you wouldn't be "aiding a surrender to terror". By hurting McCain in the general election, you would be increasing the likelihood of smarter and more effective tactics to reduce the threat of terrorism. Every intelligence agency predicted that an invasion of Iraq would lead to increased terrorism, and this obvious prediction has been clearly confirmed. The kind of unnecessary wars that John McCain advocates are Al Queda's greatest recruiting tools.

There! Easy enough. But how did Hillary's spokesperson, Terry McAuliff respond? He blathered some Rudy-esque crap about Hillary being from New York, 9/11 blah blah blah, and that she served on the Armed Services Committee. How freakin' lame! He declined to even try to make any attempt to challenge the bullshit Republican framing of this issue!

But the real problem is that he didn't have a choice. Hillary voted for the war. If she is the nominee, the entire party, including all of us, will be fighting this battle with one hand tied behind our backs. We've seen this movie before with John Kerry. He couldn't challenge Bush on the main issue that Bush was running on, because he voted for the war.

The Republican strategy on security/foreign policy/terrorism is total bullshit. It needs to be challenged. It needs to be challenged because it's harmful. It's harmful to our safety. It's harmful to our national interests and standing in the world. It's harmful to the world. It leads to untold death and suffering.. It needs to be challenged, but if Hillary is the nominee, it won't be. Terry McAuliff just demostrated that.

Barack Obama: "I will be the Democrat who will be most effective in going up against a John McCain . . . because I will offer a clear contrast as somebody who never supported this war, thought it was a bad idea."

    •  I am less concerned about the origin of (5+ / 0-)

the war ( after all it was the Cheneyist's and syncophants) than the conclusion of said war. On this, unlike the GOP, the Democratic Party offers an alternative. With small details of differences between them.

On the other hand, I would like to see all beltwayistas like McCauliff dumped into the same dustbin the current administration is soon to consigned to.

      it tastes like burning...

Think tank piece done for Bibi Netanyahu by the NeoCons in 1996.

Get the oil-dumb Americans to invade Iraq.

        It worked. Perfectly.

BTW: bribery was more important than any part of ideology.

$500,000 a year under the table was Richard Perle's take. Came out while he was on a Pentagon planning committee.

The list of "perfect" sell-out ideas that constitute CPAC's apporved thinking -- only a nut case could believe all of them.

      Romney is CPAC-perfect.

      Anti-global warming. Anti-progressive tax code. Anti-rule of law. Anti-civility.

Romney-Limbaugh == the marriage of the century for these fruitcakes.

BTW: it will take 20 years for the sane GOP -- folks like Chuck Hagel and Charles Grassley -- to regain control of their party and win national elections fair and above board.

      Romney is the GOP future.
