    ...in the 2004 VP debates. He invoked "missing votes" as if they were baseball stats, like strikes.  And Edwards sat there and took it, when in fact the final vote is only part of legislating.

    We can't let that happen again. This calls for an immediate rebuke, along the lines of:

    "I've never let a bill fail because I wasn't there to vote for it. If I'm absent from a final vote, it's because I've already worked with other legislators to marshall support, and we've ensured that the votes are there to carry the day.

    The bottom line is getting things done. To oversimplify--to equate the passage of legislation with lawmaking itself--is deliberately disingenuous."

    They're deploying a cheap trick here. Let's call them on it.
