their week long incursion, but failed to burst the pipe, I guess they don't have bunker bursting type missiles.

    •  I don't believe that..... (3+ / 0-)

I heard that "reported" as well.
      I say BS.
If Russia wanted to Bomb the pipeline, they would have been successful.

      •  why do you believe they would have been succesful (1+ / 0-)

        if they tried?

sometimes we overestimate the capability of these so called "super military forces", weren't we supposed to be in and out of Iraq in 6 months?

        •  Because the pipeline is very big! (0+ / 0-)

As far back as the 1980's with no super weapons just simple dumb bombs RAF bomb the runway in the Falklands from 16,000 miles away, most bombs miss but enough hit to put it out of action.

Russia can not hit a 300 mile long pipeline with 1 bomb from 50 miles away, over the course of 5 days.

Sorry but if they wanted to they could!

    •  Russia could have destroyed the pipeline (3+ / 0-)

Russia has enough tanks and bulldozers that, had they wanted to, they could have driven down to the pipeline and taken it out with a good old fashion demolition crew. Georgia is not a large country and the Russians effectively control the one major road that extends from east to west.

The single report of an attempted destruction of the pipeline is of a high altitude bombing of one area around the pipeline just south of Tblisi. There have been no reports thus far of any behavior on the part of the Russians that suggests that they were actually targeting the pipeline.

      •  this report here: (0+ / 0-)

        suggests they targeted the pipeline.

        This one too:

        •  Could be true. (0+ / 0-)

But the NY Sun report is a straight lift almost word for word of the Daily telegraph report, at least they credit the source.

As for the Telegraph it sometimes is very accurate on these stories it sometime spouts absoloute crap planted by neo-cons, it was certainly the source for several reports subsequently proved false in the run up to Iraq.

50 missiles, is that really 50 missiles or 1 cluster bomb?

50 missiles is realistically 10 or more aircraft in clearly deliberate strike,

1 cluster bomb is 1 pilot drops one bomb for any number of reasons up to and including he got lost!
