  •  Couple of tidbits, apologize if they're redundant (6+ / 0-)

Officials in Austin are discouraging folks from returning to Houston and Beaumont at this time, due to fuel shortages in and around that area, and routes to that part of the state. Last I heard (yesterday), 1.3 million people in SE Texas were still without power.

When getting fried chicken at H.E.B. (one of our area grocery chains), I saw a sign letting evacuees with the LoneStar Card (food stamps) know that they will be able to buy hot, prepared food until October 3. If you know anyone in a position to take advantage of that waiver, have them double-check the deadline. I know it's at least through the end of September but it may be longer.

As I have stated before on the other Ike diaries, it takes a LOT for me to give Rick Perry any credit for anything. I just don't like him, and I don't think he's been a good governor. But for Hurricane Ike, he seemed to be on the ball and do everything he could reasonably do to get ready. IMHO shortfalls in relief fall squarely on Perry's predecessor and his incompetence as President.
