  •  I am an autism advocate. (18+ / 0-)

Who is a grateful student of the many who have been tackling disability issues for many years before I came on the scene. Even those whom I may disagree with on some issues. Palin makes me gag with the breezy "I'll be a strong advocate" empty talk about special needs.  What hearings did she call? What bills did she sign into law?  What outreach has she done?  I can't find squat.  Maybe someday, Sarah...

My son is a teen now and I have the ability to testify, lobby, and armtwist on behalf of those who are unable to do the necessary outreach.  I know too well the challenges (and joys) of having one child with autism and the intense stresses that are fellow travelers with the disorder. I can only imagine the challenges of providing appropriate resources for two. I salute you and your family.

My focus now is on adult and family services, rather than the research related funding stuff, which I did when first introduced to the autism community.  Public policy for adults with disabilities of any kind is so horrid, so I feel a need to do all I can to try to move the rock.

I've had the opportunity to lobby Barack and his staff over the years on autism issues and Obama "gets it".  In detail.
