  •  Doesn't anyone recognize strategy? (3+ / 0-)

Everyone applauds the 50-state strategy, but the major point of it was to show respect for people who have been outside the Democratic tent for decades and bring them in.  You don't do that by reflexively hiring only those with the stamp of approval by the progressive netroots.  Obama is, and always has, hired people for his team that fit the following qualities:

    1.  Exceedingly competent
    1.  Intellectually strong
    1.  Willing, able and eager to carry out well-examined policy goals

The long range goal here is to discredit and dismantle the right wing GOP policy machine-- the Grover Norquist-led think tank crowd, the focus group-tested right wing GOP talking points, the "let's do it just because it pisses off our enemies" style of policy-making.  The Obama hirings are all designed carefully to undo this cancerous blight on our politics and policy.  While you might not approve of individual appointments, the man is strong enough intellectually and politically to remain decidedly in control of his team-- he's shown it over and over again from Harvard through the state legislature through the Senate through the campaign.

I worked in state government in Illinois, and I've seen him work.  I have full confidence that he'll do it very well, and the result will be the dismantlement of the worst and most distructive elements of the Republican party aparatus.  Anyone taken a look at the state of the Republican party in Illinois lately?  You'd do well to take a look-- it's pretty ugly for the GOP here.

"We have always known that heedless self-interest was bad morals; we know now that it is bad economics." Franklin Delano Roosevelt, March 4, 1937

    •  Good point, but instead of strategy (0+ / 0-)

I prefer the term used by Will Ferrell's George W Bush:

"There have been tyrants and murderers and for a time they seem invincible but in the end, they always fall -- think of it, ALWAYS." - Gandhi
