The US Democratic Party is pretty centrist-centre right by Canadian and European standards.  The pitfall of having only two viable national parties, I suppose.

It would mirror the Democratic Party rather well actually. The Liberal Party has long been led by DLC-types and has some center-right people in its ranks. The NDP is what our own progressive movement would look like if we had a multiparty system.

        Hidden by:

decriminalization of marijuana and safe injection sites for drug addicts.

So they would certainly be a bit to the left of the Democratic Party

But these paradigms are universally accepted in Canada.

The Liberals are similar to Democrats due to their left-centre fiscal policy positions. But even they are to the left of Democrats on social issues like gay marriage, drug laws and gun control.

And there is no question that the NDP is a socialist party.

They are the party supported by unions. And they are most responsible for our national health care system.

They also oppose personal and corporate tax cuts. The NDP prefers to spend that money on social programs, the environment and infrastructure.

The NDP has railed against corporate greed and appeasement by Liberals and Conservatives since their inception. They have always been the party of the working poor in Canada.

            Their socialist cred is well-established.

That had better be a mistake.
