    investigations and hearings.

Why on earth would you try and smear his work as conspiracy theory? Do you not know that a Congressman named Dick Cheney labeled Kerry a 'conspiracy theory nut' in the press because he dared question what was going on in IranContra and even more criminal - BCCI?

    •  To All: OK, if the CIA really has committed all (0+ / 0-)

these crimes and is such a clearly criminal enterprise, why is it still in business? What aren't the culprits in jail?

I mean, really, the things that are being said here paint this intelligence agency as one of the most anti-democratic and subversive groups in recent American history.

Now you're going to tell me that no one has brought them to justice since the Church Committee because they fear the CIA?

      Now, that's a conspiracy.

Were the Clintons a part of the drug-running 80s too?

      C'mon.

Some bad apples are one thing, but an entire organization as a criminal enterprise?? I just thought that went against the dKos TOS, but then I'm new.

to hit the road, could he? Plus, if you know ANYTHING about Clinton back then, he was SUPPORTIVE of IranContra POLICY, as many centrist Dems were at the time.

So...no...he wasn't part of the drugrunning, but DID look away when told.

And it's NOT the entire CIA, but operatives who've been loyal to GHWBush at the CIA.  Maybe you should remember that shortly after the 2004 election, Bush had his CIA boss go into the agency and PURGE those agents he suspected were working for or even supported Kerry in any way.

        •  I respect your positions and command of fact (0+ / 0-)

but I have to go back to my original observation:

When talking about "operatives loyal to GHWBush" or like the commenter below "factions within the CIA" it's pretty clear that this is about conspiracists operating within a governmental agency on a secret agenda.

Without passing judgment on the accuracy of that, I just thought you couldn't talk about such conspiracies on this site.

Thanks to all for the clarification. Perhaps in this case the diarist presents enough credible links and info to pass some smell test. In addition, the diarist also focuses on the tragedy of an individual, Gary Webb.

          •  Because they are FACTS. Bush DID purge the CIA (0+ / 0-)

after the 2004 election of those he believed were disloyal to HIS agenda.  And there have been agents who have come out over the years and discussed some level of criminality involved in the illegal operations that have been ongoing.  I expect it to get REALLY HOT after Bush2 leaves - I hear there's more than a few whistleblowers chomping at the bit.

Factions within CIA.  As with anything, you may not generalize.

Why aren't the culprits in jail?  Because cases are too mindboggling to try in public.  Because there are a class of people who operate above the law.

I just thought that went against the dKos TOS, but then I'm new.

...but not so new that you're unfamiliar with the TOS, and not so new that you'd feel uncomfortable calling experianced posters on their content...

        ...so maybe not so new.

        Maybe just a sockpuppet.

I had the blues so bad one time, it put my face in a permanent frown- but I'm feelin' so much better I can cakewalk into town..

      •  You might as well ask why Bush wasn't impeached. (2+ / 0-)

You could also ask why J. Edgar Hoover was not removed and thrown in prison for wide scale fourth amendment violations.

I mean Bush stood in front of a camera and admitted that he directed wide-scale law breaking. It is fairly obvious that matters of Law and Order at the highest level, are often decided by financial interests, power and plain-old politics.

Your question sound astoundingly naive to be believable, but I will have to give you the benefit of the doubt.
