    •  We can still indict and prosecute (8+ / 0-)

All an impeachment is is a Congressional indictment. It would have taken the Senate to remove Bush from office. That's all impeachment lays the groundwork for. It makes it a strong case for criminal prosecution later. Removing Bush from office would have at least stopped him from continuing to torture. Removal from office isn't an appropriate punishment for his acts. The problem is we would have had to impeach and remove Cheney from office first, then Bush. And I really wish we'd done that. It would have been the right thing to do.

Stalin, Mao, Franco, Pinochet all left office without being punished for their greater crimes against their own people. We should show the world that we do still believe in the rule of law and that members of the Bush/Cheney cabal need to be brought to justice. There is no statute of limitations on war crimes as the Israelis will attest to in their decades long pursuit of Nazi war criminals.

We do need to know the full truth and do as much as we possibly can to see that this never happens again. Not to mention repairing or mitigating all the harm caused by Bush & Cheney. Those Vichy Democrats need to be held accountable too.
