I'm not sure Bush gave him a green light, but you're welcome to educate me, I have an open mind.

On the other hand, the US needs to do some hard thinking about when and how to act because presently, there are any number of such situations or worse in the world and I wonder if the US will solve them all.

I suggest working through the UN and using diplomatic pressure more oftern, it actually can work.

Example: Will the USA succeed in Afghanistan where all others have historically failed? How?

Based on historical precedent and knowledge of the region, I hope this is one campaign promise Obama seriously reconsiders because you aren't going to change Afghanistan's culture/politics in a year or ten years and even if you could, you wouldn't accomplish the stated goals without changing Pakistan too, and that surely would be an unwise move.

It's funny that people here jump on the bandwagon calling Bush a careless Hawak, but are you as objectively critical of Obama's stated commitments and proposed methods including unilateral strikes within Pakistan?  He has stated that on numerous occasions.

    How does that differ?

And not to trivialize the tragedy of Croatia or Bosnia, but are Africans facing the same circumstances of worse any less in need of help?

Will a failure to directly intervene be a green light?

Serious question. Now Dems own the store. What/how much to you do?
