but Rahm can fucking bite me. He's the eptiome of the selfish DC Beltway power-hungry mentality: Fuck the 50 State Strategy that got us here and will help us with our greatly increased numbers in Congress. Fuck Howard Dean because I don't like that The People love him so much that it takes focus off of me and how great I am. I don't care about the long term health of the Democratic Party just so long as me and my friends get to stay in charge and keep our cozy elite lifestyles. Thanks for everything, Howard. Now will you and those pee-ons who agree with you please go fuck off and die?

    •  Rahm is considered (5+ / 0-)

to have been in line for Speaker.  If he were power hungry, he would not have accepted the job.

Often the most powerful positions have nothing to do with the most high-profile positions. Daily access to the President? Being the President's gatekeeper and largely deciding who else gets access? Pffft. I'd say Chief of Staff is way more powerful than Speaker of the House.

        •  The Speaker of the House can't be fired... (0+ / 0-)

...if s/he doesn't take direction from the President. Equal branches of government, and all. Not so for the Chief of Staff.

          •  Sure, the closer you fly to the sun (0+ / 0-)

the more likely you are to get burned. But in the meantime, you're in the innermost of the innermost circle, whispering directly into "god's" ear around the clock. Speaker of the House can't touch that. Very different types of power appealing to very different types of personalities. Sure, Rahm would thrive as Speaker, but COS just too good to pass up for the way he (apparently) likes to operate.
