    Would America be safer if anyone even suspected of being or aiding a terrorist were detained indefinitely?  Probably so.

    But that is true in the criminal world as well.  If we locked up anyone suspected of being a crimonal, the streets would be safer too.

    Fact is -- more Americans are killed each year by criminals than terrorists. More Americans are attached by criminals than terrorists.  America would be SAFER if we just detained anyone suspected of being a criminal.

    BUT... Even with all the rights and safeguards we have in place in our criminal justice society, there are instances where innocent people go to jail (or have even been executed).  With none of these rights and safeguards, I can only imagine how many innocent people are possibly being datained in Gitmo.

    Does military need to follow the same "burden of proof" as criminal courts?  Probably not.  But at least should be approached with the same American philosophies.
