    ...this line of thinking.  We might feel a little better about ourselves in the morning, but I sure as hell wouldn't feel any safer.

    It sounds like "Release them all and take what's coming to us."  That's unacceptable.

    Some person or persons needs to be able to decide who to release, and who needs to be held for trial, and they need to be given enough information to make informed, intelligent decisions.

      all admissible evidence and if there isn't enough admissible evidence then they get released.  What you are suggesting is unclear but it seems to be that we grab people and someone goes into a room and if that person thinks YOU are a danger then you get locked away until ....?  And you don't get to test the evidence?  And you don't get to have counsel, and the evidence can consist of whatever they torture out of you.  I think that is what is unacceptable, and unamerican.
