but I agree a lot more with your comment here.

This diary wasn't about what to do with the detainees.  I don't know the answer to that - other than charge and prosecute those without manufacturing evidence before a court that isn't a kangaroo court.

What I am saying here is the knee jerk reaction to closing Gitmo based on "a number of detainees who returned to the battlefield" warrants pushback.

And as you know, I like to use mockery and turning the argument against those who are making it.

I agree on the tracking part, actually.  How, I am not sure, but if all of the effort was put into tracking US citizens here in the US, then that same mechanism BETTER be able to track others outside of the US.

Maybe they can be tracked by some non-invasive procedures...

Thanks for your civil response. I agree in part, but I think there is some evidence now that there is are detainees who have returned to the battlefield. As much as we'd like to mock the Bushies, there seems to be no doubt that some have returned to the battlefield. Is it "61"? I don't know, but I'm reasonably certain some have.

that some will have and will return.  But to overly inflate the number doesn't address the "what should we do after releasing the ones we release" question.

If the number is more like 15, then there is a difference in perception, not that 15 couldn't do a lot of damage, as we saw on 9/11.

But there seems to be a groundswell towards CW that there are all these who have "returned to the battlefield" so we shouldn't close it.

And then there is nothing offered up as an alternative, so it is the double-whammy of lies and false choices, coupled with no alternative offered.....

Of course, the other thing is that there was no uproar when they were released under the Bush administration.
