we got a call from Costco to destroy a crate of Clif bars that we bought earlier, but of course, with three teenage boys, no food stays around for long in our house. We had eaten all of them, and no problem at all. We really can't afford to destroy food.

Also, after the last outbreak where the CDC said it was the tomatoes, and then later said it was never the tomatoes, but the jalapenos...... Well, I am not throwing any food away.

      People have died from this.

Salmonella is serious business--and the fact that people have gotten it from peanut butter is just crazy.  You should be able to eat peanut butter without it killing you. Our food system is totally f****d up--we need a food revolution in this country!

chicken, eggs, vegetables, fruit, sprouts, juice.

Yes, a small percentage of elderly and infants will die from salmonella. I am not making light of it. It is very uncomfortable to get fever, vomiting and diarrhea.

My point is that I don't think the people who track this stuff have a good idea of where it comes from, and we have to throw away so much perfectly good food because they don't know what is contaminated and what isn't. That is a damn shame in a world full of hungry people. I bet that most of the peanut butter that is being thrown out is perfectly good.
