  •  This is the real difference... (3+ / 0-)

While I'm not a fan of dichotomies, most of them being false, perception is largely divided between those who have had a pigs boot on their neck and those who have only been called "sir" or "ma'am".

Some of know what they are capable of, and some of don't.

I had the shit beaten out of me by a couple of pigs when I was 17. They didn't arrest me, they never gave me any orders to comply with in the first place, they just attacked me.

Just blasted me in the face with a flashlight, took my knee out with baton, and beat the shit out of me while I was on the ground.

Then "Fuck, that's not him...fuck, fuck, fuck..." and they were gone.

I'm damn lucky they didn't think I could identify them.  I couldn't, btw.

The difference is not between people who have had a direct bad experience with cops and those who have not.

The difference is between those who care about eliminating injustice whether or not it directly affect them.

Some of us have never had a personal bad experience with a police officer (myself included), but would have to be blind, deaf, and dumb (or just an uncaring, racist? SOB) to not realize that police brutality is a serious problem affecting our society.
