    •  Probably, and if he doesn't, who is responsible (8+ / 0-)

      for that?

At what point will he be responsible?

I support him, and am optimistic.

And, I acknowledge the need or some appropriate and fair transition time.

But, at some point, if torture does continue to be an officially sanctioned  policy of the CIA, or other secret parts of our government apparatus, we will have to hold Obama accountable to the same standards we tried to impose of previous administrations.

I'm just a little concerned when I see Democrats appearing to set up in advance the "Bush Defense" for Obama, i.e.  "oh, he's just a good hearted rube, misquided by Cheney."

Anyone remember Reagan's, Ollie North-pre-Alzheimer defense during Contragate.   Some, congressioal insiders remarked, that the Contragate transgressions were probably impeachable, however, noone in congress beleived Reagan was cogent enough to have really known what was going on.   And that Poindexter and North, were running their own show out of the basement.

Obama's spectacular intelligence gives me hope we may finally have a president who can and will say with authority and credibility "the buck stops here.  I'm president and take full responsibility for everything that happens in my administration."   The same way a Navy Captain does.

If underlings make an error grounding the ship, a Navy Captain does not blame them, but takes resposibility for insufficient training.

Sort of exactly the opposite of what Bush, Rumsfeld, Cheney, and Gonzoles did with Gitmo, and torture.

Which is the primary reason I felt they should have been impeached.  I mean that their lack of true leadership responsibility was even more unacceptable in a Presidential administation than the specific torture transgressions themselves, which I also believe they were culpable for.

Let's not demean Obama by suggesting that he is already caccooned so deeply in staff bubble, he is not aware of his administrations own pollicy
