I had a UTI when I was three years old.  I can remember sitting down on the toilet to pee and screaming in pain.  The doctor gave my mother a list of instructions to follow, and one of them was, "No sodas or carbonated drinks."  I was soda-free, and UTI-free, for nearly twenty years.

Then when I started working the night shift at a hotel, I started drinking Mountain Dew.  I not only put on the pounds, I also started getting infections regularly.

Last summer, after a horrific UTI that . . . well, never mind what, I quit sodas completely.  No diet drinks, no sparkling water--nothing.  It's been almost six months, and I haven't had another infection since.

Hope is a good thing--maybe the best of things--and no good thing ever dies.
