of the effectiveness of these torture techniques has gone back decades. Ewan Cameron was hired by the CIA back in the 50s to examine what might work to make a person scared or disoriented enough to become cooperative. They used techniques such as deprivation of sleep or extended maintenance of sleep for days, the effects of LSD and other drugs on subjects to remove their inhibitions so they would tell the "truth" or create a tabula raza of experience, finding out what the "subjects" fears were and subjecting them to that fear for lengthy periods, sensory deprivation, temperature extremes, etc. in Ewan Cameron's experiments. Many of these torture techniques were found to be used at Abu Ghraib.
