bitter in excess. It is much lower in sodium that common salt (sodium chloride) and can help reduce the use of table salt. It doesn't seem to have an effect on me in moderation (it gives me a headache in excess.) I actually have some in my spice rack.

There have been a number of studies on MSG.  It received GRAS status by the FDA in 1959. It is present in traditional Asian cuisine  because of the use of seaweed.

I'm very sorry that some people are very sensitive to it, but I would no more want to ban it that I would suggest banning peanuts due to allergic reactions. I would like to see some type of standardized food labeling for a wide range of potential food allergies. Some type of "look here" on the packaging to see the potential allergy triggers in the product listed in an easily readable form.

Disodium guanylate and disodium inosinate, not to mention autolyzed yeast extract... all of which are vulnerable to contamination with molds.  Yuck!

Impeachment is a duty, not an option that can be taken off the table.

in moderate amounts. The problem arises most often with cheap Chinese food, especially soups, where they sometimes use MSG as a thickener - you need to add a lot of it for that purpose. That can leave me with clenched teeth for hours.

East Asian cuisines tend to be very high in sodium even apart from MSG due to the liberal use of soy sauce.

The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.
