Where is Sanjay Gupta on all of this?  Why hasn't he used the huge megaphone he's got to warn Americans about these things every single day?  And now he's going to the the great protector of health in the U.S.?

Where is the media on all of this?  If I have to see one more segment of pundits snickering about Blago, while not reporting real news...

For that matter, why isn't President Obama warning American citizens that they are unwittingly eating and drinking mercury?

was from 2005.  Not clear whether it is that big a problem still.  And the amounts detected were quite small for the most part- parts per trillion- and close to level of detection of the instrument.  We might be over-reacting to this.

So basically, I should have known about this a long time ago.  But still, we should have been assured that the problem was taken care of... or something.

I think that the reasons I react so strongly to this type of information is that: 1) I'm a mother, and I'm afraid that I'm feeding my kids poison without knowing it; and 2) I have chronic health issues that we can't seem to find the cause of, and there are days when I feel like it's because of a slow poisoning by toxins in the environment and/or the food.  My neighbor's teenage daughter was having all kinds of problems for years and finally one doctor found that she had abnormal levels of several things in her system, one of them being arsenic.  I can't recall the other two things but I think one was copper.
