    In 1990 when Margaret Thatcher resigned, I heard a BBC commentator say something like:
    In 1970 having a woman as prime minister was regarded as science fiction. By 1980 it was non-fiction.

    Guyana, which is almost evenly divided between South Asians and blacks, had a Jewish grandmother (Janet Rosenberg Jagan) as president from 1997 to 1999.

    Speaking  of South Asia, India may have an Italian widow leading it before too many more years go by.

    And here in the US, one of the old Confederate states, Louisiana, almost elected a South Asian as governor.
    BTW, Bobby Jindal did get elected to the House from LA-01 on Tuesday.

    The world is changing, even though people would like to see it frozen in time.
